Bisbee Jumpsuit
This design was completed at Object Hotel in January 2020. It is fitting to think I was designing a painter's uniform shortly before my life would change with arriving at and eventually owning Object Hotel, a place for painter's and musicians to create in the center of Bisbee, Arizona, a true artists haven.
So many details went into this design, from pockets, to sleeves that roll up with a button attachment, incredible tailoring for a flattering fit, and of course the hardware around the collar as an homage to the aviator uniforms. This jumpsuit is meant to be a uniform, take it on a trip with 5 pairs of underwear and you will be dressed for any occasion. Dress it up or wear it to go for a hike. I like to wear a shirt underneath when hiking and if it gets hot take off the top part and tie the sleeves around my waist.
The materials range from basic white cotton which is bleached so you can dye it the color of your choice and get messy in it, natural canvas with a bit more structure for a polished day look and great for a meeting, and the Italian Cupra for a luxurious silky feel. Cupra is brushed with copper to get the silky feeling and this particular material was sourced headstock at Mood Fabrics in Los Angeles. I fell in love at first sight and purchased the 7 remaining rolls. Each roll was low so instead of getting the fabric digitally cut (7 times ... 3 jumpsuits per roll) which would have been over $1000, I personally hand cut each piece that goes into the jumpsuit on our cutting table in our Bisbee shop, Object Trading Post. It is hard to find this fabric, I went to a massive trade show in LA and only found one version from a Japanese supplier that was much lighter, so if you love this one, it may not be restocked.
We are working on a men's version so if you are interested in one please let us know (!!) and email rachel@objecthotel.com
